No letters today. For the first time in weeks, Kenji has a whole afternoon with nowhere to be — and discovers that doing nothing is harder, and then easier, than it looks.

Kenji standing at the door of the village post office, bicycle beside him, postal bag conspicuously empty. He reads a small handwritten sign on the door: "No deliveries. Rest day." His expression: mild bewilderment.
The bag was empty. The afternoon stretched out ahead of him without instructions.

Kenji cycling slowly through the main village street, no destination, one hand loose on the handlebar. Other villagers go purposefully about their day. He looks mildly out of place being the only one without somewhere to be.
He had ridden this street every day for three years. He had never ridden it without a plan.
